A Humble Vow

O dear sweet Juliet with beauty such that makes the golden sun look dim! I, with the whole world as my audience, hereby profess eternal love for thee! And may all look upon these words in envy, for such love is as yet unmatch’d in strength. Though thou hast come to doubt my commitment, in that same vow I made upon our coming to this strange place, constant I yet remain. O come what may, I shall be at thy side, and shall not rest whiles we are safely home, return’d to our Verona hand in hand. How could these eyes have wander’d from this aim to novelties and trifles, I know not, but I, by blessèd moon do swear, no more shall my head be so turn’d in any way that my belovèd Juliet is not.

O take me at my word that if I find an interest in our new surroundings here, ’tis but in search of means for our return! No more shall I admire endless rows of high majestic castles in this land. No more shall color’d iron horses hold so captive my attention in your stead. And dare I use such sorceries as this, ’tis to deliver my own heart to thee.

These transgressions of mine are so severe, the night lit up not by the moon so dull but fallen stars so strangely close and bright, can offer me no rest, no, peace, no sleep! For in this new unknown, I made thee feel forsaken and alone in thy pursuit! Such wrongs as mine deserve no mercy, yet in thine own heart so vast as skies are blue, would thou so much as aid thoughts of reprieve, so as my strength could be once more thine own, so as together we may end these troubles!

O Juliet, my dream, my life, my soul, how aches my heart without thee by my side! Unworthy though I am of thy fair grace, I shall not rest in my continued search for a way home, long as my heart doth beat.
